“In film, there are two ways of including human beings. One is depicting human beings. Another is to create a film form which, in itself, has all the qualities of being human: tenderness, observation, fear, relaxation, the sense of stepping into the world and pulling back, expansion, contraction, changing, softening, tenderness of heart. The first is a form of theater and the latter is a form of poetry.” —Nathaniel Dorsky

My work draws on speculative fiction, the tarot, philosophical theories of possible worlds, technology, and feminism to explore discrete but interconnected questions surrounding love, longing, free will, and choice. My work also explores the context which also inspires these states. In my work I consider the effects of place, theories of knowledge, technology, and embodiment and how these contexts might determine or complicate our choices. .

In this current work, ‎L’Étranger, 2018 [The Stranger] I am meditating what it means for us to view other people's intimate lives from a distance. How our voyeuristic impulses to peer into the lives of others might complicate our feelings about our own family life. In particular in this piece I am considering how we judge our own happiness in our familial life by comparing it to the appearances of others. The kaleidoscope effect in this video is meant to interrupt the act of looking enough to heighten and highlight the strangeness of looking at a family we don't know.
Opens tomorrow at 7pm - 9:30 PM @the_carrack as part of ANTI-NOSTALGIA and @clickphotofest
